This document, produced by Walking for Health, states that "keeping active helps us feel both healthy and happy. People that stay active: • get less stressed • sleep better • feel better • have a 30% lower risk of getting depressed • keep their minds sharp • improve their memories • reduce their risk of having dementia." Seems like enough reason to me!
There is a bit about being less likely to fall which is particularly good. As we get older, we are more likely to fall and this is why many people end up in hospital. They fall and cannot look after themselves at home, so they stay in hospital or a nursing home and often cannot face being independent again. I know of people that this has happened to. Surely we all want to be independent for as long as we can and avoid being "cared for" in this way. So come on and walk, if you don't already, or dance or whatever you feel drawn to.
Of course we have all heard this before, but I thought it was worth reminding as we all slip in to lazy ways, especially with all the rain we are having. and boy is it hard to get back in to action again?
The bluebell picture at Blackberry Camp is just a little incentive to get out and about, as is the following picture of a lovely little spot near Lustleigh, Dartmoor:
